The Thief River Falls Prowlers opened the 2011 football season Friday night with an impressive 35 – 20 win over the Roseau Rams. The Prowlers built a 14 – 0 lead in the first half behind a Kaleb Torgerson 1 yard run and a 29 yard pass from Micah Schneider to Holden Nelson. In the second half, after a 55 yard touchdown pass for the Rams, Thief River Falls would score on consecutive drives with runs of 49 yards from Ryan Hutton and 63 yards from Torgerson for a 28 – 12 lead after three quarters. Each team would add a touchdown in the final quarter for the final score of 35 – 20. The game featured two of the area’s top players, Prowler Fullback Kaleb Torgerson and Ram Quarterback Alex Ziegler. Torgerson led the Prowlers with 234 yards rushing on 34 carries for 3 touchdowns. the 34 carries is a new Thief River Falls single game record! For the Rams, Ziegler ran for 62 yards and threw for another 230. The Rams threw 4 interceptions in the game, and were called for 100 yards in penalties. While the Prowlers turned the ball over just once on the night. The win was the first for first year Head Coach Aric Attig who takes over the reins this season for Jeff Mumm. Up next for the Prowlers is their home opener Friday night at Lowell Swenson Field against the Warroad Warriors.
