The BGMR Gators stopped the Stephen/Argyle Storm on Tuesday evening in Middle River in the opening round of the Section 8 9-man football playoffs 40-12. Wyatt Pepple took the opening kickoff for a touchdown to put BGMR up 6-0 to start the game. The Storm however would answer back on their first drive with a 63 yard touchdown run by Davis Mills to tie it up 6-6. BGMR came right back and would score on a Jaquan Rehn 15 yard touchdown run for a 12-6 lead. After the Storm were forced to punt, the Gators would drive again and score on a 1 yard touchdown run by Alex Rehn and the Gators lead 20-6. After the Gator defense held again, the Storm would punt the ball only to see the Gators fumble and Stephen/Argyle would recover. The momentum was quickly taken back by BGMR as the Gators Mathew Stromsodt intercepted the ball, giving BGMR the ball on the storm 48 yard line. BGMR would then drive to score again, this time an 8 yard TD run by Alex Rehn to put the Gators up 26-6. Stephen/Argyle would score with 5:23 to play in the 2nd quarter to make the score 26-12 and the Gators took that lead into halftime. The Gator Defense held the Storm scoreless in the 2nd half while scoring twice themselves, an 18 yard run by Alex Rehn, and a 30 yard Fumble recovery by Jacob Anderson for a TD to end the scoring. Final score: BGMR 40 Stephen/Argyle 12. The Gators improve to 5-4 and will play in the semi-finals on Saturday, 10/29 in Hallock against the KCC Bearcats at 7pm. The Storms season comes to an end with a 4-5 record.
Both teams were without some key players. The Gators quarterback Nic Dostal, who had a season ending injury last week; and TJ Wojochowski, who could return for the next game. Daniel Haugen was injured for the Storm, although he did play, he was not 100%. During the game, starting Quarterback Blake Labine went out with an injury, and in the 2nd half, the backup quarterback, Dalton Feuillerat left the game. It was a good crowd at the game and the weather was about perfect.
