Tax Credit Encourages Businesses to Hire 12 Jan 12

The newly elected Majority Leader in the Minnesota Senate says reduced business tax rates, not tax credits – are the best way to stimulate jobs and reduce unemployment.

Republican Dave Senjem made the comment yesterday, in response to a Pre-Session Plan from Governor Mark Dayton and top Democrats that would offer a one time tax credits – as much as three thousand dollars per hire in 2011 – 15 hundred dollars in 2012.

Senate Minority Leader, Tom Bakk says many businesses are just about ready to hire but need a little encouragement to get the job done. The tax credit would be available to businesses that hire veterans, the unemployed or recent graduates.

The Governor hopes to place the proposal before law makers when the State Legislature convenes January 24th in St. Paul.
