The Northern Freeze continues to flex their Section 8 muscle on Monday night with an impressive 73 to 48 road win over the Ponies of Warren/Alvarado/Oslo.
The Freeze were led by senior Beau Bothum who poured in a game high 40-points, while collecting a dozen rebounds in the win. Bothum’s offensive performance included 4 three pointers and 14 conventional field goals. The Freeze also got a boost of the bench by the play of Kade Klassen. Klassen entered the game early in the fist half and responded with 13 points and 6 rebounds. The Freeze were with-out the services of senior forward Nick Olson who was sidelined with a sore knee. Sophomore Dustin Dahl came of the bench to fill in the post and contributed with 8 big boards.
The Ponies struggled offensively all evening. A combination of poor shooting and poor offensive rebounding led to Warren/Alvarado/Oslo playing the first six minutes of the game before collecting their first field goal. The Ponies did see the return of senior post player Zach Riopelle. Riopelle, who been sidelined the past 2+ games with an ankle injury, came off the bench and contributed 8 points in limited play.
The Northern Freeze are now 9-and-2 on the season and will continue play this Thursday at Section foe Kittson County Central. The loss drops the W/A/O Ponies record to 6-and-7. The Ponies also return to the hardwood on Thursday night at Red Lake County.
