The Bearcats game plan included shutting down Freeze players Tori Davidson and Allyson Dahl. Something they did quite successfully early in the game, what they didn’t count on was the play off the bench by freshman Emily Hestekind. Hestekind poured in 11 first half points to pace her team to a 24-17 half time lead.
The second half would start with a flurry as Davidson would score the first 7 points out of the locker room and lift the Freeze to a 14 points lead before the Bearcats would get back on the scoreboard. In fact the Freeze would build a 17 point lead mid-way through the second stanza, before the KCC started chipping away. The Bearcats would close to with-in 5 points late in the game, but could get no closer as the Freeze would hold on for their 9th win of the season.
A big difference in the game came at the foul line. The Northern Freeze were 16-for-24 at the ‘gift stripe’, while the Bearcats were just 4-for 8. Kittson County Central would see two players foul out of the contest. The game would be plagued by 49 turn-overs between the two teams.
The Northern Freeze are now 9-and-7 on the season and will be back in action, on the road, Tuesday night against the Thief River Falls Prowlers. The Prowler vs Freeze game will be broadcast on KKDQ 99.3 FM and on-line at www.trfradio.com.
The Kittson County Central Bearcats suffered their fifth consecutive loss, and drop to 5-and-11 on the year. The Bearcats will play at Warroad on Thursday, January 26th.
