We have a couple of scams to tell you about today …
The first was reported just last week in the Fergus Falls area, where Police Chief Steve Adams says residents have been receiving telephone calls about a breach in security from a company called Visa Inc.
Adams says you are asked to re-pin your credit card number on your phone, but the entire call is a scam. The phone number that will appear in your caller ID is a fake, and will fail if you try to call back.
The second involves your next hotel stay.
The Better Business Bureau says they’ve received a number of complaints that hotel guests are receiving late night telephone calls from someone posing as an employee, claiming to be at the front desk.
Dan Hendrickson, with the BBB says the so-called employee says they are having problems with your credit card and will ask you to re-issue your number and sleepy guests are giving the information, only to find the call is a scam and not from the front desk at all.
The best advice, if you receive an unsolicited telephone call asking for your credit card number – hang up.
