Stephen/Argyle was victorious in a hard fought Section 8A Girl’s Basketball game with the Bearcats on Monday night in Hallock. Stephen/Argyle 67, KCC 58.
These two teams, despite opposing records, match up pretty well. In their first meeting of the season, back on January 2nd, the Storm would trail by double-digits late in the game and come back to beat KCC by 1. Monday’s night game was more of the same. After a couple of early lead changes, the Storm would lead by 10 (38-28) at half-time…KCC would see that lead extend to as much as 13, before closing ranks and cutting it to a 2 possession game with just a couple of minute to play. But the Storm would be good at the free throw line in the second half (15/21) to win it by 9 points.
Kallie Haugen led a balance Storm offense, that also got a good spark off the bench by Carly Safranski. The Bearcats were paced by the post play of Paige Craigmile and Sydney Klein. For the Bearcats they would have three players in double figures, but also found themselves in foul trouble, with three players fouling out of the contest in the final 5 minutes.
The win improves the Stephen/Argyle record to 16-and-2, 12-and-1 in Section 8A play. The Storm will be back in action on Thursday, February 2nd in Warroad. The loss for the Bearcats, their 7th consecutive, drops their record to 5-and-13 overall, 3-and-9 in the section. Kittson County Central will play the BGMR Gators, in Greenbush, on Thursday.
