The winning words; “Compromise” and “Inflammable” -

Congratulations to Franklin Middle School 8th Grader, Sheyenne Johnson and to 6th Grader Angel Cullen – both winners in the District Spelling Bee, held Tuesday in Thief River Falls.

Both will advance to the Regional Spelling Bee next month at Northland Community and Technical College and both will have a chance at the ultimate prize; an opportunity to move on to the Scripps Howard National Spelling Bee, held in May in Washington D.C.

Alternates Elle Jorgenson and Peter Zaviska placed third and fourth.

The annual event was coordinated by Franklin Instructor, Brenda Leier. English Instructor Margaret Olson served as pronouncer, with judges Assistant Principal Tony Greene and teachers Sharon Johnson and Diane Paulson. The event is sponsored by the District #564 Academic Boosters.
