A number of area high school students signed National Letters of Intent on Wednesday to play football for a hand full of area colleges.
Bemidji State University announced the addition of 34 student-athletes to the BSU roster for the 2012 season. Of the 34 commitments – 16 signed National Letters of Intent, two are transfers and 16 have inked offers of admission. Offer of Admission Signees for the Beavers include: Kaleb Torgerson and David Erickson, both of Thief River Falls and Zach Rynning of Kennedy
The University of North Dakota in Grand Forks indicated that they signed 23 prospects on Wednesday. The UND signees included Brian Labat and Joe Mollberg, both of Detroit Lakes.
North Dakota State University in Fargo announced the signing of 17 high school athletes to National Letters of Intent. The Bison list includes Zach Riopelle of Warren/Alvarado/Oslo and Carey Woods of Bemidji.
University of Minnesota Crookston signed 13 players. Locally that list included Adam Lawrence of East Grand Forks and Zach Burns of Grafton, ND.
By signing a National Letter of Intent, a prospective student-athlete agrees to attend the designated college or university for one academic year. Participating institutions agree to provide athletics financial aid to the student-athlete, provided he/she is admitted to the institution and is eligible for financial aid under NCAA rules. The National Letter of Intent mean that the student-athletes are no longer subject to further recruiting and they are assured of an athletics scholarship for a minimum of one full academic year.
