Alcohol is suspected in an accident Friday that took the life of a Crookston woman.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, 39 year old Darcey Jablonski died when the car she was driving struck a pickup stopped in the wrong lane of Highway #2, near Fisher. Troopers say the accident occurred in heavy fog, Friday morning, shortly after 2am. Jablonski was taken to Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, where she died.
The driver of the second vehicle, 21 year old Daniel Johnson, was also taken to Altru suffering injuries that troopers described as non-life threatening. Both vehicles were totaled.
According to the report, the Johnson vehicle – a Ford extended cab pickup – was stopped west bound in the east bound lane when the Jablonski care collided head-on with the “wrong-way vehicle” – Officers say visibility at the time was “very limited” due to heavy fog.
Troopers say they believe alcohol may have been a factor in the accident, detected in the pickup driver. It is not known if either driver was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
