The Northern Freeze escaped Hallock with a 53-50 section win over the Kittson County Central Bearcats on Thursday night. The Freeze jumped out to an early first half lead over KCC, primarily on the play of Tori Davidson who hit for 10 first half points, including going 5-for-5 at the free throw line. With the Freeze up by 11 points (19-8) the Bearcats capitalized on a handful of Freeze turn-overs and strong play off the bench by Megan Olsonawski to close within 3 points (26-23) at half time.
The second half would see both teams offenses shift to different play makers. Allyson Dahl would tally 13 of her game high 18 points in the second half for the Freeze….while the Bearcats saw Shelby Diamond hit for 10 of her 15 points in the second stanza. The second half was never more than two possession ball game as the Freeze held off Kittson County Central for the 3-point victory.
Coming into the contest both Coach Sean Spilde of the Freeze, and Mark Johnson of the Bearcats, continued to look for consistency in their teams play….and outside of a 3 or 4 minute stretch in the first half, for both teams, this was a tight ball game with very little give by either side.
The Northern Freeze improve to 13-11/11-6 with the win and will wrap up the regular season with a game on Thursday, February 23 in Argyle against the Section leading Stephen/Argyle Storm.
The loss drops Kittson County Central to 6-17/4-12. The Bearcats final regular season game is also on February 23rd at East Grand Forks Sacred Heart.
