Teens and Distracted Driving 27 Mar 12

A new distracted driving study shows teen girls are twice as likely to use electronic devices while driving than boys.

And – teen males are twice as likely to turn around in their seats while driving, and are more likely to communicate with people outside of the vehicle.

Triple A Minnesota’s Gail Weinholzer says the study also found that distracted driving activities significantly decreased when parents or other adults were present in the car.

  • concerned by the idiots

Anyone using electronic devices while driving are a menace on the road but I have to say that my observations around TRF, it isn’t the teenagers, it’s the middle-aged women who have a phone glued to their ear. Sit by any of the schools and watch how many women come driving up to pick up their kids and pull over into handicapped spots, no parking spots, and etc. all the while chattering away on their cell phones…totally oblivious to what’s going on around them !! Really moms ?….your lives are THAT busy ??

  • just my opinion

Unfortunately, yes, most moms who are working outside of the home, as well as inside the home, are that busy. It is a sad statement of how the world works, but there is just no time to make those calls to the doctor, dentist, arrange additional daycare for overtime, etc, during the day. I agree that cell phone usage needs to be responsibly handled, as well as parking in handicap spots, incorrect parking, however.
