The Thief River Falls Area Food Shelf is looking for a new location, a new manager and a fresh perspective after the temporary closing of the agency, on Atlantic Avenue in Thief River Falls.
Vice Chair Jeff Gauss called the decision heart wrenching, especially the termination of long time manager, Gloria Reierson – who Gauss said had done a “good job” in often thankless conditions for little pay along with closing the Food Shelf, which puts a strain on the many people who use the facility and other service providers in the community.
At the same time, Gauss said the board of directors felt they “needed a change,” the decision forced by operating expenses that have outrun income over the last 2 years as the board has faced rising costs and declining financial support.
As Gauss said, The Food Shelf will temporarily be closed while the re-vitalization effort is underway. Along with a new manager and new location, Gauss says they are also seeking the fresh perspective of new board members, and can be contacted by email at foodshelftrf@gmail.com …
