Haviland to Army Hall of Fame 24 Jul 12

Thief River Falls native Chelsea Haviland is one of seven athletes/coaches chosen to be inducted into the Army Sports Hall of Fame.

While enrolled at the United States Military Academy at West Point, Haviland became the most decorated diver in the history of Army’s swimming and diving program. A four-time varsity letter winner, a team captain for her senior season and graduated as the Academy record-holder in the one and three meter dives. She earned the prestigious Army Athletic Association award in 2006.

During her diving career, Haviland won eight Patriot League championships, sweeping both boards in all four of her seasons. She is the lone four-time recipient of the Patriot League Diver of the Meet.

Haviland, a 2006 West Point graduate, holds three Patriot League diving records, is one of just 21 athletes to be named a Patriot League all-star on four occasions and was Army’s first female diver to advance to the NCAA Championships.

Haviland is 2002 graduate of Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls.  During her prep school years she earned seven varsity letters in swimming and diving … also lettered in both basketball and track … four-time All-American diver … four-time all-state swim team … “Diver of the State” from 2000-02 … participated in national diving competitions for five years with seven top 12 finishes. 

Haviland is the daughter of Jim and Alicia Haviland of Thief River Falls. 

Only individuals that graduated from or coached at the Academy and those five years removed from their playing and coaching days are eligible.

The honorees will be officially inducted into the Army Sports Hall of Fame on Friday, September 28, 2012.
