Filings Open Tuesday 30 Jul 12

The first day of filings Tuesday for mayoral, city council and school board races across the state, including several offices in Thief River Falls.

City residents go to the polls to elect a new mayor, the terms of 2 city aldermen will also be decided along with one alderman at large.

Mayor Steve Nordhagen – the Republican endorsed candidate for the State Senate in District #1 – announced earlier this year he will not seek re-election to his mayoral post. Also on the ballot the Alderman at Large seat now held by Ken Schmalz, Alderman Floyd Erickson in Ward 2 and Alderman Conrad Holen in Ward 4.

On the Thief River Falls Board of Education, the terms of Josh Witlow, Misty Hempel and Randy Twistol are all up for election this year.

There are no primaries in city or school board elections in Minnesota. Every name that files goes on the ballot.

City Candidates can file during regular business hours, 8 to 5 at City Hall – the Historic Soo Line Depot – there is a 2 dollar filing fee – and School Board Candidates file at the District Service Center with Personnel Director, Becky Rogalla – between the hours of 8 and 4:30 – a 2 dollar filing fee applies.
