A Thief River Falls Day Care Provider has plead not guilty to charges of malicious punishment of a child …

40 year old Heidi Sue Senum entered the innocent plea last week in Pennington County District Court in an appearance before District Judge Steven Drange.

Senum was charged after one of the children in her care was seen May 14th in the Emergency Room at Sanford Hospital in Thief River Falls. Police say the child’s mother was called to the Day Care after the child refused to eat. The mother told officers she found the 4 year old boy sitting on the floor, crying with blood coming from his nose. Staff in the Emergency Room say he suffered bruising near the eye and redness to his face and buttocks.

Senum later admitted she “lost control” spanking the child 6 times and striking him once across the face with an open hand.

Pennington County Attorney, Alan Rogalla, says Senum’s Day Care License continues under suspension. Her next appearance is scheduled as a Pre-Trial Hearing next month in Thief River Falls.
