Nearly a Dozen Vehicle Break-ins Reported 18 Jan 17

Thief River Falls Police are investigating a weekend crime spree involving garage and vehicle break-ins, with an advisory to the public to take inventory and lock up things.

Officials made the announcement with a post to their Facebook page Sunday evening saying they received almost a dozen reports over the weekend.

TRF Police Chief Dick Wittenberg said Tuesday, “the majority of these were people breaking in to cars and some of the cars were in garages. Some were locked, some were unlocked.”

Chief Wittenberg said the incidents largely took place in one area of town, the “Oriole Drive area.” As of Tuesday there were ten incidents reported. Wittenberg believes there will be more after people hear and read the story. Wittenberg advises people take an inventory as they may be victims without knowing it.

Wittenberg believes this is not the end of such incidents in the area as we transition from winter into spring. He said the public should keep  doors locked and valuables out of sight in their vehicles so as to not tempt anyone into breaking into vehicles.

If you believe you have been affected from recent break-ins, or any in the future, report to the TRF Police Department 681 – 6161.
