Smoking Blamed on Fatal Fire 16 Mar 17

The Roseau County Sheriff’s Department has released the name of the Badger Area Man, killed in a house fire earlier this week.

According to Sheriff Steve Gust, 51 year old Michael Downham – formerly of St. Paul – died in the fire reported to 911 Dispatch just before 4am Monday.

Sheriff Gust says the fire – at a residential home near the city of Badger – remains under investigation but says the initial cause appears to be “unsafe cigarette smoking.”

Two other people, a mother and son, escaped the fire without injury.
