One person died, another was critically injured in a car/semi accident yesterday morning on Highway #59, North of Thief River Falls in North Township.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol; 87 year old Arvin Dahl of Middle River, the driver of the car, died – a passenger in the car, 87 year old Marvel Lenora Dahl, suffered life threatening injuries – after their vehicle pulled onto the highway and into the semi-tractor trailer rig at the intersection with 190th Street, 2 miles north of Thief River Falls.
The driver of the semi; 62 year old David Loe of Browerville, escaped without injury.
State Troopers say the Dahl vehicle, a 2011 Buick Lucerne, was west bound on the county road and stopped at the stop sign before pulling onto the highway and into the North bound truck. The car was pushed into the east highway ditch, where Thief River Falls Fire Fighters used the jaws of life to free the Dahl’s from the wreckage. Both were transported by ambulance to Sanford Regional Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Officers say all drivers and passengers were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident, reported at 8:20 Tuesday morning.
