They’re going to the World Championships!
Coach and High School Computer Science Instructor, Natasha Olsonowski, says it was a series of ups and downs that ultimately landed the PRO-DIGI FIRST Robotics team in an award winning alliance, a State Championship and a chance at a National Title.
Olsonowski says the team was ranked 18th after eight qualifying matches and thought their day was over, when they suddenly found themselves allied with first ranked East Ridge, emerging from play-offs with the highest score in quarter finals, still on top even after a heart-stopping, seldom heard of, replay in semi-finals to earn the title North Star Regional Champions, qualifying for the World Championship later this month in St. Louis, Missouri.
In addition to the National competition, the 15 member team – sponsored by DigiKey in Thief River Falls – has also qualified for the Minnesota State High School League State Tournament on the Main Campus of the University of Minnesota, in May.
Meanwhile, a Go-Fund-Me Page has been set up as a fundraiser for Team Travel to the National Championship at https://www.gofundme.com/first-championship-st-louis-mo
