(New Orleans, LA)  –  Free-agent running back Adrian Peterson could be heading to the “Big Easy.”  Multiple outlets report the New Orleans Saints and Peterson are closing in on a deal.  Peterson became a free agent last month when the Vikings declined to pick up his $18-million option.  The 32-year-old spent his first 10 seasons in Minnesota.

(Arlington, TX)  –  Brian Dozier’s three-run double in the fifth inning propelled the Twins to a 3-2 win over the Rangers in Texas.  It erased a 2-0 deficit as Minnesota successfully kicked off a six-game road trip.  Phil Hughes pitched six innings of two-run ball to improve to 3-and-1 with the win.

(Arlington, TX)  –  The Twins and Rangers resume their three-game series tonight in Texas.  Ervin Santana will get the ball seeking a 4-and-0 start to the year.  The Rangers will counter with right-hander Andrew Cashner.

(Undated)  –  Former first-overall draft pick Jake Long is calling it a career.  The 31-year-old offensive tackle announced he’s retiring from the NFL after nine seasons.  Long was limited to just four games with the Vikings last season due to a torn Achilles and has played in just 15 games total over the last three years.  He started 99 of 104 career games with the Vikings, Falcons, Rams and Dolphins.

(Philadelphia, PA)  –  The Vikings are going through their final preparations for the 2017 NFL Draft.  It begins on Thursday from Philadelphia.  The three-day affair begins with round one on Thursday, rounds two and three on Friday, and the final four rounds on Saturday.  The Vikings do not have a first-round pick this year after trading it to Philadelphia to acquire quarterback Sam Bradford.
