A Brave New Downtown for TRF 26 Jun 17

A brave new beginning this morning in Thief River Falls, after a community workshop has drawn new ideas and new energy into the development of a master plan for the Downtown Area.

The session was hosted this past Thursday by the Downtown Development Association; as they work through a grant with University of Minnesota Design Staff to focus on renewed and enhanced economic vitality.

Those attending the Workshop were divided into groups and asked to voice their thoughts concerning assets, liabilities and needs of the downtown area.

University and Graduate Design Staff say they were impressed by community concern for business and the future of the City Center.

Some the assets identified included; the Riverwalk, location of city and county offices, downtown banks, the location of the city owned liquor store, and the Lincoln High School Campus.

Among liabilities; empty downtown store fronts, the shabby appearance of some buildings, the fountain at Elks Park that was vandalized this past Spring and a concern over new retailing and activities focused on the younger generation.

The next Downtown Development Session is scheduled for July 19th.
