Property Damage in Karlstad Area Grass Fire 12 Sep 17

Significant property damage but no injuries, in a Pelin area wildfire East of Karlstad that still had fire fighters on the scene Tuesday morning.

The fire – of unknown origin – was first spotted by Department of Natural Resource Aerial Survey yesterday, with Karlstad Fire Crews and DNR Officers responding. Eventually they were joined by additional volunteers with the Greenbush Fire Department who worked into the night and were back at the scene this morning.

Adam Munstenteiger, with the Forestry Office in Warroad, says property damage included a years worth of bailed hay, more than 7 hundred bales that went up in smoke as the fire burned into a farmstead in Lind Township.

Again, no injuries reported.

Munstenteiger says vegetation is tinder dry in extreme fire danger conditions today.
