National Weather Service Confirms Several Tornadoes Hit Listening Area 21 Sep 17

The National Weather Service confirms thunderstorms that hit eastern North Dakota and Northwestern Minnesota earlier this week produced several tornadoes.

Survey teams report a tornado touched down on the outskirts of Betrami, 18 miles south of Crookston around 8 Tuesday night.  Rated an EF-1, with speeds of 105 mph, the twister demolished a large steel building, scattering debris into a nearby field, damaged a garage and snapped off several trees. It was on the ground for about a half mile.  Another EF-1 tornado briefly touched down a half hour earlier 2 miles south of Beltrami with a peak wind of 95 mph.

The same storm system produced torrential rain in a swath across Northern Cass County into Norman County. Rainfall amounts of 3 to 7 inches were common with a report of 8.1 inches west of Hendrum, Minnesota.
