Autopsy Ordered in Death of Oklee Man 22 Sep 17

An autopsy has been ordered in the death of an Oklee man that followed a series of phone calls and a short police stand-off Wednesday.

Red Lake County Sheriff, Mitch Bernstein, says the body of 25 year old Michael Hamlin Jr., was found in a home on 7th Avenue in Oklee. Sheriff Bernstein says Hamlin died of a single, self-inflicted gunshot wound – a .45 caliber pistol and one empty shell casing recovered from the scene.

According to Bernstein, Red Lake County Dispatch received a call at 6:30pm Wednesday, requesting assistance; concerned for a family member abruptly disconnected in the middle of a heated telephone conversation.

Officers arrived to find 27 year old Aryyn Hamlin and her two year old daughter standing outside the 7th Avenue home, Aryyn’s husband; Micheal, still inside the residence.

Aryyn said the two had been arguing, when Micheal grabbed the phone in anger and destroyed it. According to investigators, the deputy reported hearing a gunshot from inside the home as he was talking with Aryyn – keeping the mother and child outside until back-up arrived.

Attempts to contact Micheal were unsuccessful. Just before 8pm officers used a robotic camera to enter the home, the body found in an upstairs bedroom.
