Alcohol Appears to be a Factor in Weekend Road Fatality 25 Sep 17

Alcohol is being blamed for a weekend traffic crash that killed a young Clearbrook area woman.

Elsie Yoder, 23, died after the horse-drawn buggy she was a passenger in was struck by a Ford Pickup Saturday evening.

The driver of the Amish buggy, Mervin Yoder, 27, was taken to Sanford Hospital Bagley, his injuries described as non life threatening. The driver of the pickup, Christopher Baumann, 27, of Nevis, was not injured.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the pickup and buggy were both south-bound when the Ford F-350 stuck the rear of the buggy just after 7:30pm. The crash happened on Highway #92 in Leon Township.

State Troopers say believe Baumann had been drinking and that alcohol was a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
