(Detroit, MI)  –  The Tigers have reportedly picked Ron Gardenhire as the team’s next manager.  According to media reports, the 59-year old former skipper of the Minnesota Twins was a favorite for the job since his interview with Detroit officials earlier this week.  Gardenhire led the Twins to six AL Central titles during his tenure with Minnesota from 2002-2014 and spent last season as bench coach for the Arizona Diamondbacks.

(Minneapolis, MN)  –  The Minnesota Timberwolves host the Utah Jazz tonight in their home opener at the Target Center.  The Wolves opened the year with a 107-99 loss in San Antonio on Wednesday.

(Winnipeg, Manitoba)  –  The Wild are back on the ice tonight facing the Jets in Winnipeg.  The team will then visit Calgary tomorrow before returning home.  The Wild sit at 1-1-and-2 after their 5-4 overtime loss to Columbus last Saturday.  The Jets are 3-and-3.

(Minneapolis, MN)  –  The Vikings seek a third consecutive win on Sunday when they host the Baltimore Ravens at US Bank Stadium.  The Vikes have posted back-to-back division wins over the Bears and Packers to move atop the NFC North at 4-and-2.  Case Keenum will start at quarterback once again in place of Sam Bradford, who remains sidelined with a knee injury.  The Ravens are 3-and-3.

(New York, NY)  –  If you’re like many fans that could never afford a ticket to the Super Bowl, you may now be in luck.  The NFL announced the Super Bowl Ticket Giveaway, which is a new initiative this season to surprise fans across the country with tickets to the big game.  The NFL will give away 500 tickets to Super Bowl 52, in addition to an entire Minneapolis youth football team and its coaches getting tickets.

(Minneapolis, MN)  –  The Golden Gophers host the Illinois Fighting Illini tomorrow at TCF Bank Stadium.  The Gophers have lost three in-a-row to begin Big Ten play after starting the season 3-and-0.  The Illini are 2-and-4 and 0-and-3.

(Undated)  –  North Dakota State and North Dakota are back in action tomorrow.  The 6-and-0 Bison host Western Illinois.  The 2-and-5 Fighting Hawks entertain Sacramento State.
