Mayor Holmer Attends U.S. Customs Town Hall Meeting 03 Nov 17

It was a late night for Thief River Falls Mayor Brian Holmer, representing the business community at last night’s Town Hall Meeting on a proposed reduction in hours at US Ports of Entry in Roseau.

Nearly a hundred people packed the meeting last night to hear from US Customs and Border Protection, proposing to close Ports of Entry at Roseau and Lancaster at 4pm daily, redirecting traffic at the International Border to 24 hour facilities at Pembina, 30 miles west of Lancaster on I-29 and Warroad, 21 miles east of Roseau.

Field Officers cite traffic count and cost as the reason for the reduction, but Mayor Brian Holmer says they are not fully considering the economic loss to business.

The proposed reduction in hours is scheduled after the First of the Year and would only effect North Bound traffic with Canadian Customs maintaining current hours of operation.

Chamber Director Ashley Nerhus will be attending the second in the series of Town Hall Sessions, Monday night in Lancaster.
