City Expected to Take Up Electric Department Facility Questions Tonight 07 Nov 17

They say what goes around comes around and it seems that the City of Thief River Falls has come full circle in the development of a new facility for the Electric Department.

The former Municipal Services Center was sold earlier this year to clear the way for the expansion of Digi-Key, leaving city leaders looking for the right spot to house Electric Utilities, settling on a site just south of the State and County Shared Use Facility, off of Veterans Memorial Highway, the Bi-Pass on Thief River Falls West Side.

Decades past, the site had been considered for City Shop expansion with the relocation of the County Highway Shop and the Minnesota State Patrol.

City leaders rejected the idea at the time, but the Council will be asked to approve plans and specifications along with a call for bids in time to complete the new structure in that same area in October of next year.

Along with Highway Access, the city is also expected to site the facility along a planned extension of First Street, opening up utilities to new development in Noper’s Fifth Addition.

Also tonight the Annual Convention and Visitor’s Bureau Budget Presentation along with informational items, including a review of last night’s Port of Entry Town Hall Session in Lancaster.

The council also meeting in previously announced closed session tonight, to conduct the fifth in a series of Administrative Job Performance Reviews; this time for Police Chief Dick Wittenberg, along with a discussion over on-going Labor Negotiations.
