Turkey Growers Association Donating Turkey to Food-shelves 21 Nov 17

With Thanksgiving just a day away, the Minnesota Turkey Growers Association is donating over 13,000 pounds of turkey to Minnesota food-shelves.

Colleen Moriarty, with the non-profit Hunger Solutions, says in many cases people end up at food-shelves not because of long-term poverty, but because of a mishap or unanticipated expense.

Moriarty says they’ve been partners with the Turkey Growers Association for almost two decades and she says nothing is better than agriculture and food-shelves working hand-in-hand to feed the hungry.

That includes Northern Pride Incorporated, Thief River Falls, regionally owned by 25 North Dakota and Northwest Minnesota growers raising the Northern Pride product for a number of retailers across the nation and the world, specializing in gift boxed turkeys, free range turkeys and antibiotic free birds.

It all adds up to 40 million pounds of turkey annually for Northern Pride, with a shout out this Thanksgiving to the growers, management and staff, more than 200 strong processing some 20,000 birds daily at the plant on Pennington Avenue in Thief River Falls.
