Couple Hospitalized After Ice Breaks Under ATV 15 Dec 17

A Park Rapids man was hospitalized and his wife is recovering after they broke through the ice on their ATV into frigid water on Little Sand Lake near Park Rapids this past week-end.

46 year old Jason Funk was taken to a Fargo hospital with hypothermia conditions that included an increased heart rate and kidney concerns before being released Thursday.  His wife, 41 year old Holly Funk, was taken to a hospital in Park Rapids and released.

The ice was only two inches thick and the lake was 30 feet deep where the incident occurred.  The couple were in the water for about 25 minutes before some people heard their distress and called for help.  Deputies arrived on the scene and  were able to get them out of the water.

Just another reminder, make sure ice is thick enough when venturing out for some entertainment, ice conditions can vary across the state.
