City Council Moves Ahead with Department Re-organization 21 Dec 17

The Thief River Falls City Council this week moved ahead with plans to finalize Department Re-organization in Parks, Streets and Sanitation Divisions by making interim appointments permanent with a series of promotions for Public Works Director Mark Borseth / Arena Manager Melissa Sletten / Parks Foreman Mike Olson and Street & Sanitation Foreman John Cervantes.

The resolution Tuesday passed over the objections of Labor Committee Chair, Gerald Brown, who says the timing during on-going Labor Negotiations is just plain wrong.

However, Mayor Brian Holmer claims reorganization is working well, that the adjustments in salary and job description have been anticipated for some time.

City Administrator Rodney Otterness says reorganization is expected to save more than $70,000 dollars in salary expense annually.

The shake-up comes in the wake of the release and elimination of the position formerly held by Parks and Recreation Director Joe Amundson.
