Above and Beyond; Officers Recieve Life Saving Awards 17 Jan 18

It was a night to acknowledge service above and beyond as four officers were recognized for saving the life of a driver, unconscious and trapped inside her vehicle following an accident in Downtown Thief River Falls.

The presentation was made last night by Mayor Brian Holmer at Thief River Falls City Hall, with Life Saving Awards given to Pennington County Deputy Melissa Larson, Thief River Falls Police Officers Mark Bruggeman,  Brady Meunier and Deputy Police Chief Craig Mattson.

Mattson says police arrived on the accident scene to find the vehicle locked, the woman unconscious behind the wheel, breaking a back window to free her, getting her out of the vehicle to begin CPR and defibrillator treatment.

The driver was taken by ambulance to Sanford Thief River Falls, then transferred to Altru Hospital in Grand Forks where she was said to be “recovering well.”

This is the second career Life Saving Award to Officer Bruggeman.
