Bergstrom Confirms Investigation into Holiday Party 12 Feb 18

A Thief River Falls man has been charged, the Thief River Falls School District has opened their own, independent investigation, after allegations of under-age drinking and sexual assault during a Holiday Party held at the home of a school employee.

19 year old Logan Lane has been charged with Criminal Sexual Conduct in the 3rd and 5th Degree; accused of allegedly sexually assaulting a woman who had been attending the party, while she was passed out in a bedroom at the home.

Lane made his first appearance one week ago today before District Judge Kurt Marben in Thief River Falls, with his next court date scheduled March 5th.

He has not yet entered a plea in the case.

According to the Criminal Complaint filed by the Pennington County Attorney’s Office; several friends had expressed concern for the alleged victim, who admits passing out after drinking a combination of orange juice and vodka from a bottle she brought to the party December 27th.

Friends helped her to a bedroom at the home, with reports later in the evening that Lane allegedly entered the room and had sex with the victim. Police were called the next morning to the Sanford Emergency Room in Thief River Falls; eventually finding cause for criminal charges – the victim “physically helpless due to intoxication,” waking bruised but unable to recall any of the events of the previous evening.

In an interview this morning; Police Chief Dick Wittenberg said the Criminal Sex charges are the only ones brought to date in the case; that everyone involved was over the age of 18 – and that he did not believe any were present students at Lincoln High School.

In spite of that; Superintendent Bradley Bergstrom has confirmed an Independent Investigation on the part of the Thief River Falls School District; saying the District “is always concerned for the safety of students and staff .. “
